Needle vs Microcannula

Dermal fillers have been injected using needles as a typical method of application, but in more recent methods therapists are finding there are several advantages of not using the supplied needle, and instead, using a blunt tipped cannula for the injection of dermal fillers. Cannulas cannot pierce the skin, and pushes its way through skin tissues, where as a needle is required to make an entry point, which creates a greater risk of puncturing and artery or vein as it passes through tissues.

A cannula can also reach wider areas with few entry points and being blunt tipped should that entry point need to be re-entered it poses minim discomfort for the client as there is no need to re-puncture the skin.

Needle:

  • Sharp tip
  • Rigid & short
  • Multiple entry points
  • Excellent precision

Cannula:

  • Blunt tip
  • Long & flexible/bendy
  • Few entry points
  • Less bruising & swelling
