Nerve signals are blocked by the botox injected in the muscles. the interrupted nerve signals temporarily paralyse or freeze the muscular tissue which results in the wrinkles within that area being softened, reduced or removed. Because of the way this product works it is only affective on wrinkles caused by expression other wise known as dynamic lines. Static lines remain on the face even when the muscles in the face are relaxed and can not be removed with botox.

The differences between Botox and fillers are:

Botox: Freezes muscles to stop wrinkles and creases caused by facial expressions which are typically located within the upper face such as forehead and around the eyes.

Dermal fillers: Are made from Hyaluronic acid or a similar substances and used to “fill in” or plump areas that have lost volume and smoothness such as wrinkles, forehead, scars and other areas which may need plumping to give the skin a smoother more youthful appearance.

Botox results last 3 to 4 months where are Dermal filler results vary from 6 – 24 months + depending on which filler is used, area treated and the clients metabolic rate.

Botox and fillers can sometimes be combined in one treatment for a better effect as one substance relaxes the muscular tissue and the other plumps and fills voids in the skin. This combination can give a long lasting and refined finish to some treatments such as the liquid facelift which uses both methods.
